Last Day of the 112th Congress

Today is the final full day of the 112th Congress and no votes are scheduled although both chambers will convene. The day had been set aside to debate a $27 billion Hurricane Sandy Disaster Relief package for near term needs and $33 billion for longer term projects needed for recovery. However, it does not appear that either measure is set for completion today at this time.

Late last night, the House cleared legislation to avoid higher tax rates for millions of Americans, and the House Republican Cloakroom posted this notice: “No legislation is scheduled for Wednesday.”

The 113th Congress begins tomorrow at noon.  New Members will be sworn in tomorrow afternoon.

Much of the focus now is turning to the upcoming debate over the nation’s debt ceiling, setting up yet another fiscal standoff and media fed “impending calamity.”

Early welcome to the 113th Congress!
