Comments Sought on Revised G&G-related Information Collection Requirement

The Interior Department’s Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) has announced that it is seeking comments by Tuesday, October 21 on its intention to seek Office of Management and Budget approval to renew a geological and geophysical exploration-related information collection requirement.

BOEM specifically says that the update to form BOEM-0327 (submitted by G&G permit applicants) is needed to clarify the types of copies being requested, delete incorrect language, make recommendations for faster processing, update addresses, clarify wording, provide examples/tables to reduce confusion, and separate requirements by OCS region.

Noting that it is merely “outlining current requirements in more detail” rather than asking for more information, BOEM is raising the burden for Atlantic OCS and Alaska OCS permit applicants to 300 hours due to requirements to submit environmental information sufficient for National Environmental Policy Act review of acoustic impacts on marine mammals and other protected species.
