Comments Sought on Recommended New Oil Spill Recovery Calculation Method

The Interior Department’s Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) has announced that it is seeking comments by Monday, Oct. 6 on the GENWEST Systems, Inc. Effective Daily Recovery Capacity (EDRC) Study, the peer review of the Study contained in the National Academy of Sciences Letter Report, and BSEE’s comments on both the Study and the Report.

BSEE notes that the agency is continuing to develop and refine Estimated Recovery System Potential methodology, with the intention of evaluating the method as a potential revision to BSEE’s oil spill response plan regulations.  Among other things, it states that the agency will be conducting additional studies to explore the development of additional planning tools (beyond mechanical oil recovery capabilities) and potential requirements for other response options such as dispersants and in situ burning.
