Spring 2009

The Spring 2009 Arctic Study Tour took place May 22-27.

The Arctic Dialogue was organized and initiated by Norway’s Bodø University Graduate School of Business and the High North Centre for Business and Governance (affiliated with the University), and supported by HBW Resources, to foster dialogue and increase information sharing between stakeholders in the Arctic.

Offshore industries, for oil & gas to fishing to transport, are diverse, but closely-tied, that provides significant resources and support for the communities and economies throughout the Arctic.

The high north Arctic region, including the Chukchi Sea, the Barents, and the areas off the coast of Northern Norway, is potentially an essential and secure hydrocarbon producing area as well as a biologically important resource, at a time of ever-increasing global energy demand and geopolitical challenges for access to hydrocarbon reserves.

However, many parts of the Arctic are considered environmentally pristine with robust fishing and crabbing industries located within potential hydrocarbon resources. The Arctic is also at the nexus of other important, global issues such as the Law of the Sea, transportation issues, global climate change, indigenous rights, as well as energy security.
